I've had a prang. What do I do now?
If you are involved in an accident:
- Make sure you and your passengers are OK
- Render assistance to any injured persons
- Do not leave the accident scene
- DO NOT admit liability or fault
- If a Police Officer is in attendance follow his or her instructions
- Gather the contact details of anyone else involved with or witness to the accident
- Take all reasonable steps to secure your vehicle and prevent any further damage
- Advise Pioneer Insurance of your accident immediately – we’ll then help you with
what to do next
Do you cover windscreen damage?
Absolutely. We will also cover accidental damage to any of the vehicle’s windows,
including the sunroof.
What if it was my fault?
You are covered regardless of who is at fault. You are also covered if a third party’s
car or property is damaged, even if you're at fault.
Some @#%! stole my car and wrote it off. Is this covered?
Yes it is, you are also covered if your car is damaged or destroyed by fire or your
car is intentionally damaged.
What won't you cover?
You are not covered if you are breaking the law. You are also not covered if your
car is destroyed in a thermo nuclear explosion, plus some other stuff.

Paying an annual premium will clean me out. Any options?
How about monthly, fortnightly or weekly payments? Click
here for more details.
I keep my car in a locked garage. Will that reduce
my premiums?
You bet. And here's some other ways to save. Make sure you give us all the details
when you join so we can apply all the discounts you're entitled to:
- You hold a full New Zealand driver's licence
- Your car has a recognised working alarm or immobiliser system installed (rated 3-star
or higher by the NZSA –
click here to link to their website)
- You are able to securely garage your car at night
- You don't drive one of the well known 'risky' vehicles – ask us for more info on
this
- You opt to have a voluntary excess. If you choose a higher excess than is standard, you’ll pay a lower premium in return – click here for our excess options.
- Your car won't be driven by anyone under the age of 21. It’s even cheaper if you
exclude drivers under 25, and cheaper again if you insure just yourself and your
partner or spouse.
- You have had three years or more claim-free with another insurer
- You live in a low-risk area – not one of the 'big cities'
- You don’t have any aftermarket modifications or accessories on your car
Can I add accessories to my car like a big bore exhaust
or mag wheels?
Tell us what you've got planned and we'll load it in. Just be aware it could alter
the premium you get charged. If you're thinking of doing mechanical or structural
modifications, have a look at our handy tips section
I've been disqualified twice. Will you insure me?
Just be upfront with us and we'll insure you.
How do you compare with other companies?
Pioneer specialises in car insurance, cars are what we know. This means we have more time to spend making
our service the best in its class, rather than be distracted by too many products. You will find us extremely
competitive not only on our premiums but with the service we provide as well.
When deciding on insurance it pays to consider all the facts. We offer some pretty
competitive excesses – many other companies will offer a lower premium but hike
up the excess you’d have to pay at claim time.
Give us a call to compare or get an on-line quote and see for yourself.
My partner drives my car some of the time. Will this
cost me extra to cover them? Not at all. Partners and spouses can be
covered to drive your car at no extra cost providing you are living together in a married or defacto relationship.
Do you insure other vehicles, like motorbikes, caravans
or boats?
Pioneer Insurance is purely a car insurance company. This means we cover cars,
vans, utes or SUV’s from the cutest Fiat Uno to the beefiest Isuzu Bighorn. Sorry
– we don’t cover motorbikes, boats, caravans.
Will you cover me if I want to drive my car off-road?
We will cover events which happen anywhere in New Zealand.
Cars being used in races, rallies etc are not covered – refer to the Policy
wording for a complete list of exclusions.
